Does it contain SUPERFOODS?
FOOD has the power to make us feel SUPER GREAT or SUPER LOW. Being mindful of eating the right foods for your body can help you to maximize all of your performance capabilities. (see the link to the article ’10 Superfoods’ below) I LOVE ALL KINDS OF FOOD, but anyone who is lucky enough to have been born in North America – the land where nothing is unavailable to us, has unlimited choices to what food they’re putting in their bodies. As a recording artist in the music industry I have to make sure I’m making the right food choices – not only to ensure I’m looking my best (onstage, in photos, in music videos,) but also FEELING my best in all these situations – therefore maximizing my performance at all times.
Like all Phoenix-onians – I stray off the course every once and a while. But I’ve had to really grasp that food is such an INTEGRAL part of the equation for success that its irresponsible for anyone wanting to be successful to completely throw healthy eating to the wayside!!!!
It’s all about moderation, consistency, and really paying attention to how your body reacts when you consume different foods.
I found what works for me is eating a diet that’s high in protein (ex: chicken, red meat, tofu, beans, nuts) and low in carbs. I tend to stray away from the pastas, breads, and even watch how much rice I eat. If I do have any carbs, it’s always WHOLE WEAT. Sometimes even a full serving of whole wheat carbs can make me feel tired and sluggish, so I just make sure the my meal is complete with enough tofu/turkey/chicken and vegetables so that I’m fully satisfied.
TEA is also something that I have a lot of. It’s zero calories (if you keep sugar and milk out of it) and it can help to both energize & calm you. Ginger tea is always key for me on the day of a gig and the day after. As a singer, drinking lots of tea keeps you hydrated, and thus your vocal chords stay moist and happy!
Also, remembering to eat throughout the day is an important way to keep our bodies running efficiently and smoothly. Even if I’m busy with rehearsals, shows, interviews, etc.. I’ll try to plan ahead and make sure I have portable snacks with me to munch on throughout the day!
