My Awesome (Wo)Manager
So recently I realized that I need a manager! I meet people and get business cards and promptly lose them (or they get lost in the abyss which is my 'everywhere' bag!), I see great opportunities on-line - bookmark - and then forget about them, I need someone to handle phone calls from important people and make sure that my business is handled!
But there's a caveat, you see I'd have to hire a manager, and by having to hire a manager I'd have to PAY a manager! Now that brings up an interesting question: What's the worth of what I need a manager for? Am I generating enough income to justify paying somebody 10-20% of that income? Will that person bring in enough to justify themselves!!
Which brought me to a realization: I already have a person who fits the bill! ME!!! I have no cause to lose business cards (I've organized by bag!!), I have marked calendar events based on the bookmarks I MUST follow up on, I've began scheduling 1 hour a day to deal with phone calls, and I HAVE to make sure my business is handled. It's not easy!! But it is absolutely true: Being your own boss means that you must be willing to sacrifice for your own career. If you won't do this for yourself no amount of money paid to a third party will guarantee you success! Get mindset ready to handle success and you will be surprised by the success that mindset will help generate! Be your own awesome manager!!;)

FLEX YOUR FIERCENESS!
I watch America's Next Top Model, every episode, every cycle. WHY? Yes, I'm entertained by the reality show theatrics, but it goes deeper than that. Every week these girls are put through the model grinder and it applies directly to me (and to you!). Have you ever seen a person getting a simple direction and some how not be able to follow it? And you think to yourself "What's wrong with them?!?" or "If that were me I would rock that pose!" Only to find yourself in a situation were you are the one not being able to follow the simple instruction!!
Relax, it happens to everyone - as I'm learning;) And a lot of the time it comes down to not feeling FIERCE!! Yes FIERCE! That disco feeling that the musical theatre and fashion divas have known about for decades. When you know that you are supposed to be where you're at. You've practiced and practiced and done the work and you know really deserve to be here. Now you just need to relax into who you want the world to see and allow yourself to trust yourself in the situation. Take a deep breath and really listen to what you're being told. If you don't understand something ask for clarification - don't fake it by nodding and pretending to understand (it will take you out of the FIERCE zone - because you'll know you don't believe you can do what you're being asked to do) - that clarification will aid you in being comfortable enough to flex your FIERCENESS!!
Now I'm not saying that you must watch ANTM to learn these lessons, but it's always good to stand outside of yourself and see others make your mistakes. And when you shake your head and say "OMG! What an idiot", put yourself in their shoes and figure out how you would handle the situation to your most FIERCE potential;)

Big Girl Can't Be Tamed or Little Girl Lost?
HEY PHOEN-ITES!
Something I'd like to share with you: I was reading a recent article on Miley Cyrus' new video for her song, 'Who Owns My Heart' and how it's getting the 'Parents Television Council' concerned.
"her racy new music video, "Who Owns My Heart?," has been slammed by the Parents Television Council. Funnily enough, when you check the list of folks sitting on the advisory board for this conservative watchdog group, the biggest-name celebrity listed there is—you guessed it—none other than Billy Ray Cyrus!"
Even the girl's own father is trying to tell her to take it down a few notches? So - is it true? Miley Cyrus really can't be tamed?! Check her latest vid:
It's interesting how time and time again we have these sweet & wholesome teen idols become so sexually provocative overnight. It happened with Britney, Christina Aguilera, and even Lindsay Lohan. And it seems as though each year, they're getting younger and younger. For 17 year old Miley in particular, how does affect her fanbase when it seems like only yesterday she was prancing around innocently as 'Hannah Montanah'...
"It is unfortunate that she would participate in such a sexualized video like this one. It sends messages to her fan base that are diametrically opposed to everything she has done up to this point. Miley built her fame and fortune entirely on the backs of young girls, and it saddens us that she seems so eager to distance herself from that fan base so rapidly."

As an artist, its so important for me to know who my fans are and to give them what they want. Afterall, its through their support that I'm able to do what I do.
Same goes for Miley. So I question if its smart for her to change her image so drastically and so suddenly. I get that she's a growing woman - but if sex becomes your only 'schtick', then how can you sustain a career with so little substance?
For me, sexy comes in feeling empowered, and Learning to Fight. (Just listen to my album, "Learning To Fight", available on iTunes, to hear more about how important self-empowerment is). And its important for everyone to know what their definition of sexy is.
What are you thoughts? Is Miley gaining a wider audience, or is she alienating her largest fan base?
Some food for thought.
Stay Sexy y'all, and Keep Learning To Fight.

What's Your EXCUSE?
Hey PHOENIX FAM!
Hope this finds you alive and well as we fully fall in to autumn!
I've been thinking about the most recent episode of America's Next Top Model - Cycle 15, Episode 4 airing on Sept. 30th, and I can't help thinking about how the trials and tribulations of these runway-hungry females applies so closely to being an artist in today's challenging and exciting industry, and how if you're not willing to put in the work to be the best, then get outta the race!!!
One of the contestants, Liz, is single mother from Texas and started out as being one of my favourites, because of the strength and confidence and maturity she seemed to exude. But as the episodes keep going by, she continues to have some of the weaker photos - but more importantly, always has an EXCUSE for why her photoshoots aren't going well, or why she can't perform to her ultimate potential.
Check out this youtube video for some insight @ 7:10...
It always, "Ive got makeup in my eye", or "The harness is too uncomfortable", or "My haircut looks too boyish". In any competitive industry, excuses are just NOT acceptable and will not get you anywhere. No one wants to hear about why your photos, vocals, or performance was not up to par. You are simply just paving a way for other hard-working individuals to take your spot in line!
In my journey of becoming the First Lady of NuFunk, I've had to learn that making excuses on behalf of lazy behaviour is just not acceptable. And I find that once you free yourself from that trap, and force yourself to ask "Is my excuse valid? Or Did I just not put in the work?" you can start to evaluate just how badly you want something.
Something I thought I'd share.
Hope this finds you well. Keep working hard, and Keep LEARNING TO FIGHT!
