Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls, children of all ages – welcome to ROUND 7 (HAPPY SHINEY NEW YEAR EDITION) of my “Learning to Fight” Blog as the ‘First Lady of NuFunk’ representing NuFunktonia, the Tdot Odot, Arktik Afriqua, and beyond!

Well, well, well. You’ve all heard the saying before: ‘When one door closes, another opens’. 2009 has officially ended and 2010 is now upon us!!! I’m hoping that everyone had a great holiday season and rang in the new year with loved ones. It’s always interesting to reflect on the past year and make note of all the growth and positive changes that have occurred. I’ve been looking back the year that’s just gone by, and it’s really amazing how much has happened. I’ve gone through some pretty big changes…..

Coming out with my first ever Debut EP ‘Learning To Fight’ was, and still is, a dream come true, and it’s thanks to all of my PHOENIXTONIANS- à friends, family, and fans who have been supportive 200% of the way. Sitting alone in a room, with a keyboard, writing songs is hard enough. But to go through the process of writing, recording, producing an entire CD, not to mention planning out the theme, design, and artwork of the album was such a mountain of growth, it really does make one look back and say ‘Wow, I really did that!!!’ – with big help, of course, from some very talented musicians, and producers ;) So for all who have been a part of my ‘Learning to Fight’ experience thus far, I say thank-you. The learning, and the fighting, only gets more intense from here on in!

‘Learning to Fight’ is now available in several stores, and has sold out several times at the HMV Superstore downtown Toronto among other hmv’s in Toronto and Waterloo. In 2009, I started doing my own gigs with my own band, had 2 successful cd release parties where I raised money for charity. I started a women’s group called, ‘Let’s Hear It for The Girls’, and held meetings where professional ladies gathered to share and build for a stronger female artistic community. Attending and participating in several music business seminars this year has also proved to be greatly informative, and I’ve made some great connections through these as well!

I went on a west-coast tour of Canada with God Made ME Funky (www.myspace.com/godmademefunky) which was such an incredible opportunity. I got to see just how rich and diverse the incredible landscape of Canada is, and play to packed houses of fans from all different shapes, sizes, backgrounds, styles, ages.

I also toured to the U.S this year with God Made Me Funky. First, to NEW YORK (concrete jungle where dreams are made of ;) and then to Cincinnati where I met, and partied with the LEGENDARY BOOTSY COLLINS – and to boot, he picked up my CD :)

And so, a new year, a new chance to build and grow HARDER, BETTER, FASTER, STRONGER. A new door has opened, so let’s all choose to not only walk through it, but blast through it SO HARD that there’s no door left - not even to close behind us.

2010 is kicking off in a big way, folks! I’ll be performing at Caesar Martini’s in Waterloo on Friday, January 22nd for the ‘Touch of Soul’ series. Proceeds from the night will go to the local FOOD BANK. So come on out, for some good ol’ fashioned funk, soul, and of course some ‘Learning to Fight’ favourites!

This year will not be spent lying down – it’s all about getting up on your feet and moving. So come join me on Jan. 22nd for some dancing, and fun… and stay tuned for many more shows to come this year!!! My band – the PHOENIX are on FIRE, and it’s only gonna get more hot from here on in!

Also, check me out on Royalty Radio Tuesday, Jan. 12th at 8pm eastern-time at www.cfreradio.com. I’ll be sitting down with DJ ANDRE to talk about what’s in store for 2010.

I’ve been told this is what happens when you don’t let any doors close and kick all of them wide op. So what are we waiting for? Let’s Get Ready to RUMBBBLLEEE!!!
